New documentary examines Orlando boy-band mogul and convicted fraudster Lou Pearlman
Directed by Aaron Kunkel, The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story documentary focuses on how the mogul swindled most of the profits away from his entertainers – leading pretty much all of his bands to sue him at some point for fraud or misrepresentation, including *NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. Pearlman was also accused of preying sexually on the teenage boys that were in his charge.
Neither of those crimes landed him in jail, but Pearlman was sentenced to federal prison on a 25-year sentence for defrauding people of $300 million in one of the largest Ponzi schemes of all time. Pearlman was convicted of fraud in 2008.
The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story is being produced in part by former *NSYNC member Lance Bass and includes interviews from *NSYNC bandmates JC Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick; Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean; Ashley Parker Angel from O-Town; and Aaron Carter.
The documentary will be available to YouTube Premium subscribers on April 3.
