Maria Ellen Weeks of Melbourne dies after crash; witnesses sought

A 52-year-old woman died at a local hospital from injuries received in a crash on a Melbourne residential thoroughfare.

Maria Ellen Weeks, of the 3900 block of Bayberry Drive, was taken to Health First Holmes Regional Hospital where she died after Monday’s crash, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

The crash occurred at Bayberry Drive and Eber Boulevard, blocks from Weeks’ home, according to police.

Investigators said an eastbound 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo driven by a juvenile struck Weeks’ 2016 Honda CRV-4 on its driver side about 12:20 p.m. Monday.

Weeks was entering onto Eber Boulevard from Bayberry Drive when she was hit. Police said in the report, “for an unknown reason, at this time, she did not complete the exit …”

Initial reports stated at least four people were injured in the crash, including a teenager whose leg was impaled.

Melbourne Police Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit are asking witnesses of the crash to call 321-608-6731.
